Try raw directory print from command prompt to test communication.

Directory print com cmd prompt to see if the computer can use the port
(type “dir > comX” into command prompt some jibberish should pop out, X being whatever comport it’s on)

If you can’t get a directory print from command prompt then you definitely can not print from focus. Which is why I usually start there if a printer isn’t working. If that doesn’t work do a self test print to be double sure the printer functions. Then start trying to get it to print from command prompt to see if you can get basic communication.

If nothing comes out on a directory print from command prompt using these serial settings, and the printer does indeed self test, either:

1) com port is hogged by windows on previous failed tests or windows device is using it, change ports try again
2) bad serial cable, or incorrectly pinned serial cable (you’d be surprised), if I suspect this I like to use my on adapters to knock it out of the mix
3) com ports are jammed up from previous bad tests, reboot and try again.

In any of these cases you would have to address the issues to get it to print from focus, so it’s not a waste of time or added step to test with command prompt.

Focus RS232 settings:
start bit: 8
parity none
stop bit 1
baud 9600

If that does work and it’s still not printing from focus, post a reply of the results, it’s probably a computer setting. Make sure the serial settings are correct for sure though.
