I’ve never sold against Future because I’m a tech, but we have a lot of their servers come in and I go through and rip them apart in their comparable “BOH setup” My knowledge of it only comes from curiously poking around with absolute complete access.
Reporting capabilities are slim. Most are pre-built and there aren’t many.
When laying out items in their comparable “canvas builder” you just put arbitrary buttons on the page. Each button just says “Button 1” “button 2” etc.
You then assign the menu items in their menu item database and tell them what number button they apply to in the “canvas designer”. Pretty terrible for most customers.
Splash screen is ugly. I don’t think it’s customizable (may be wrong). Terminals screens within view of customer are not attractive.
They use an file database located in program app data. It’s not encrypted and you can open with Microsoft Access or LibreOffice Base.
According to their own techs there is no way to export the menu item files by a simple report or csv export done through the Future GUI.
To the best of my knowledge they only use HID mag readers not Keyboard wedge like we do. That’s not necessarily a positive, but necessary to know when replacing their terminals you will need to replace the readers as well.
From what I can discern, their above-store reporting integrations are generally controlled by separate exe’s.
Pro for future is you can run an instance of FOH on back of house in a separate window. Make sure if the customer likes that feature that they get an FOH license for their office computer.
I haven’t been able to get much specific feedback from servers and bartenders in the field when doing switchovers. They just say they like Focus more and I haven’t locked down many specifics in that regard.
