Setting up Wireless Networks

Focus POS recommends Ubiquiti Networks UniFi Wireless Access Points for all locations. The number of access points will vary by both the size and configuration of establishment.

Unifi Access Points will be added to standard network configurations. Please consult PCI documentation for PCI Compliant Network Standards.

Ubiquiti Networks Unifi AP Hardware Installation

The UniFi AP is powered by the included PoE (Power over Ethernet) adapter. To install the UniFi AP, perform the following steps:

  1. Connect an Ethernet cable to the Ethernet port on the UniFi AP.

  2. Connect the power cord to the power port on the PoE Adapter.

  3. Connect the other end of the power cord to a power outlet.
  4. Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to the Ethernet port labeled PoE on the PoE Adapter.

  5. Connect an Ethernet cable from the router to the LAN port on the PoE Adapter.

 

UniFi AP Software Installation

When configuring the UniFi AP software, ensure PC does not have a Static IP address.

If your computer does not have Java 1.6 or above installed, you will be prompted to install it.

  1. Install the UniFi Software. Refer to the UniFi software installation guide.
  2. Launch the UniFi Controller software.
  3. Select 'Launch a Browser to Manage Wireless Network'.

  4. Select the language and country and select Next.

  5. Select the device(s) to configure and select Next.

  6. Create a secure primary wireless network by entering the wireless network name and a PCI compliant security key. See PCI Compliance Implementation Documentation.

  7. Enter an Admin Name and Password to use when accessing the management interface. See PCI Compliance Implementation Documentation.

  8. Review your settings and select Finish.

  9. You will be redirected to the management interface via your web browser.
  10. Enter the Admin Name and Password that you created and select Login.

  11. The UniFi device(s) available will appear on the left hand side of the screen along with a map.

    12. If you prefer to configure a unique map refer to the Unifi User Guide.

  12. Drag the Unifi into the Map for the system to Adopt.

  13. Once Adopted, the UniFi controller will display a green light and users will be able to connect with the proper credentials.
